National Conversation on
|
Rather than build a monument for the 4-H Centennial, 4-H is leaving a legacy that will endure for another century. More than 100,000 youth and adults across the nation will take part in conversations about what all youth need to realize their greatest potential in the years ahead.
The National Conversation on Youth Development in the 21st Century has be held across the United States at the local, state and national level. Conversations began at the local level in October 2001, leading up the National Conversation in the end of February 2002. The goal of each conversation was to recognize the importance of positive youth development and identify actions that will increase the potential for making a difference in the lives of youth. The conversations focused on five critical areas:
- the power of youth;
- access, equity and opportunity;
- extraordinary places to learn;
- exceptional people, innovative practices; and
- effective organizational systems.
The final report from the National Conversation on Youth Development in the 21st Century was presented in April to the leaders of Congress, the Secretary of Agriculture, and the President.
