Rep. Mike Hope

Growing up in a blue collar suburb of Cleveland, Ohio, Mike Hope dreamed of going to college and having a career in law enforcement.

After serving in the U.S. Marine Corps, he paid his own way through college and graduated from John Carroll University with a degree in in Sociology and Criminology in 1998.  After graduation he joined the Seattle Police Department and in 2006 earned a Masters Degree in Policy Studies from the University of Washington.
Today, Representative Hope serves as the Assistant Ranking Minority member on the Early Learning and Human Services Committee as well as on the Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness Committee.

In 2009 he sponsored House Bill 1724, known as “Eryk’s Law”, which increased penalties for serious child abusers and restricted them from working with vulnerable children later on in life.

Recently, Representative Hope launched the 100 Ideas initiative.  Working with an advisory panel of dynamic leaders, he understands that as much as lawmakers hope to achieve at the state Capitol, government alone is not the answer to the challenges and opportunities of the future. Representative Hope believes the energy and drive of our people will move our state forward. He maintains hardworking citizens who pay taxes and raise families are the true reservoir of great ideas for our state.  Representative Hope also knows that youth play a very important role in shaping our future and is eager to hear your ideas
