Nihla BradleyNihla Bradley has been a 4-H leader for 35 years; 20 of those years she was a leader in the 4-H horse project, with a special interest in driving.  She started the first driving club in Skagit County and has been the driving superintendent at Skagit County Fair for many years.  She also helped get the driving program started at State Fair.  Over the years, Nihla has been given many horses and ponies which she donates or loans to 4-H’ers in need of a project animal.  After retiring from the horse project, Nihla has continued working with 4-H as leader of a large community club that has several small animals and non-animal projects.  She is presently working with 4-H’ers in the foods and nutrition, food preservation, knitting, and cats projects.

Nihla has held every office on the Skagit County Leader’s Council and on the Horse Leader’s Council.  She has judged publication presentations, record books, and 4-H kitchen activities for many years.  In 1990, she was chosen Skagit County’s Leader of the Year.

Nihla served on the State 4-H Fair Board for six years.  During that time, she often stayed the entire duration of the fair, helping in the office and anywhere else help was needed.  She also has judged food preservation and 4-H kitchen activities at the fair.

In addition to 4-H, Nihla has been a Master Food Preserver for over 15 years.  She and her husband, Chet, have become Master Beach Watchers and Beach Naturalists, and are now in the process of starting a 4-H project in that program.  Nihla has also served as open class superintendent at the Skagit County Fair for the past eight years, usually in the food preservation and baking departments.
