Washington State 4-H Ambassador Reunion

September 22 – Puyallup Fair and Events Center

Celebrate 35 years of 4-H Teen Leadership at the Washington State 4-H Ambassador Program Reunion.  All Ambassadors who have participated since 1976 are invited to attend.

“Being in the 4-H Ambassador Program was a real growth opportunity for me to learn how to be in a leadership role at a statewide level,” said Toby Rickman who served in the first group of Ambassadors in the mid 70’s.  “It was a chance to be creative, work in a group and to do public speaking which all helped me in the last 30 years of my career,” said Rickman who is the Deputy Director of the Public Works Department in Pierce County and also serves on the Board of Trustees for the Washington State 4-H Foundation.

The reunion is an opportunity for past and present 4-H Ambassadors to share their lives, experiences and careers. Plenty of social time, dinner and future 4-H-related opportunities will highlight the gathering.

“My experience as an Ambassador is something that I still, as a 40-year-old, write on my resume,” said Carol Park who served as an Ambassador from 1989-1991.  “I helped plan District Teen Rallies, State 4-H Conference, Know Your Government Conference, State 4-H Teen Forum, and attended National 4-H Conference and a National Strategic Action Planning Conference in Washington DC,” added Park who also was an Ambassador Advisor for six years.

The Ambassador Program serves teens in grades 9 through 12. During their two-year term youth work with other teens and adults around the state to plan events and develop their public speaking and leadership skills. Students share their knowledge and enthusiasm for 4-H during meetings and conferences at the county, state and, often, national level.

“Ambassadors form strong friendships and bonds,” said Park.  “Social media has allowed many of us to reconnect already but there is no substitute for a big, 4-H group hug.”

The reunion takes place Saturday, September 22 from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. at the Paulhamus Conference Room at the Puyallup Fair and Events Center. Registration is $35.00 and includes dinner, reunion program and Fair admission.
