Blue Ribbon Software Class Opportunities

An Eastside Blue Ribbon software class is being offered on Friday, April 27th, 10am-3:30pm, at Big Bend Community College in Moses Lake.
The class will be designed for those: new personnel with 4-H data entry responsibilities, 4-H personnel with an interest in the 4-H Blue Ribbon software capabilities; or those wanting a refresher course in Blue Ribbon basics. Please pass this information on to anyone who may be interested.
Topics to be covered will include: data entry basics; creating lists, reports, & mail labels; entering group enrollments; using the query features to sort and export data.
Please e-mail me at nancym@wsu.edu if you'd like to be included in this class. More specific location and driving directions will be sent out soon.
Westside class(es) are being planned for May. A class will be held in Snohomish County either May 15 or 17. Look for more information via 4HTalk and 4HEnroll soon.
National 4-H Curriculum Prepress Order Deadline - April 25, 2007

You have to act now to take advantage of 35% pre-press savings on any National 4-H Curriculum products. All orders for any of the 180 products on the National 4-H Curriculum shopping cart, as well as orders for complete sets will automatically be discounted. This discount will not be extended beyond April 25, 2007.
All orders received from clubs, home schools, state 4-H offices, counties, camps, other youth organizations, schools, afterschool programs, and individuals qualify. Simply place your pre-press order on the National 4-H Curriculum shopping cart prior to April 25th at www.4-hcurriculum.org . No pre-press orders will be accepted by phone, email or fax. Payment may be by credit card, check or purchase order.
Information about all the products and the pre-press sale is available on the curriculum web site ( www.4-hcurriculum.org ). You will also find the new 2007 National 4-H Curriculum Product Catalog to download.

Spring Show and Seminar

The Rada Rabbits & Cavies 4-H Youth Club will be holding their annual Spring Show and Seminar April 28, 2007 at the Benton County Fairgrounds in Kennewick. For more information, please email Aggie at aarabbits@charter.net. The seminars and workshops are free. Fitting and Showing Contest is $3 per youth.
Many youth come from all over the state as well as Oregon and Idaho to learn new things about rabbits and to practice fitting and showing in preparation for the fair season. There will also be a silent auction of show quality rabbits and cavies for the youth.
Media-Smart Youth: Eat, Think and Be Active

Media-Smart Youth: Eat, Think and Be Active! is an interactive after-school education program that helps youth understand the complex media world around them, and how it can influence their health. The National Institute of Child Health and Human Development created Media-Smart Youth to empower young people to think critically about media and make thoughtful decisions about nutrition and physical activity.
This eight-hour training will focus on media analysis, media production, nutrition and physical activity. Through hands-on workshop activities, participants will learn how to implement and facilitate the program with young people in their community. The program also covers lesson structure, resources, teaching methods, strategies and tips. Snacks and action breaks throughout the day will model the use of such breaks in the curriculum.

May is National Fitness Month and we encourage all 4-H and FitFactor participants to be even more active this month! To celebrate, FitFactor will offer youth a chance to Double the Activities, Double the Fun from May 5 through May 20. Participants will be able to log more activities and earn up to 200 points each day during the two weeks that lead up to Americas Kids Run on May 19!
FitFactor will also send new Fitness Fact cards to the bases, post youth "instant polls" on the website and ask youth to submit their favorite activities or create a new game to be posted on the website.

3, 2, 1 Action-Videography Workshop

The Army 4-H Youth Development Project is hosting the 3, 2, 1 Action -Videography Workshop June 17-23, 2007 at the National 4-H Conference Center in Chevy Chase, Maryland. This workshop is for youth and adults from 4-H, Army CYS programs, and State OMK initiatives who have a strong interest in multi-media and/or communicating/promoting programs through video. Members of the 3, 2, 1... Action Team will help develop public service announcements that explain how Army youth programs and 4-H work together to make life for kids in the military and the community better. During the week participants will:
- Develop marketable technology skills
- Gain leadership skills
- Use skills/knowledge they already have
- Experience today's technology (digital video editing, Pinnacle, etc.)
- Work with technology experts
- Gain access to the latest technology tools
- Learn to develop public service announcements using current technology
There is space at this workshop for 60 participants. This workshop is funded by the 4-H Army Youth Development Project to include travel, housing at the National 4-H Center, and meals during the training days so there is no cost to the participants or to your OMK or Military 4-H grant.
Back in your state, participants will be able to use the skills they learn to develop video products for use with your OMK (Speak Out for Military Kids/Mobile Technology Lab), 4-H Military programs(4-H Tech Teams), for Army(Youth Technology Labs/Youth Sponsorship programs), 4-H, and other community groups and events.
We are looking for highly motivated individuals who have been involved in the 4-H military partnerships in their state.
Participant Breakdown:
17 Adults
- 9 Community Participants (4-H agents, OMK volunteers, etc.)
- 8 Army CYS Staff persons
43 Youth
- 19 Active Duty Army Youth
- 12 4-H and Community youth (4-H youth, youth from OMK partner organizations, etc.)
- 12 Guard and/or Reserves Youth
Youth Criteria for the Application/Selection to the 3, 2, 1...Action Team
- Is between 14-18 years old, but not a Senior in High School when applying.
- Has or can easily obtain access to a computer, the Internet, and e-mail.
- Is interested in information technology (computers, Internet, etc.)
- Is interested in volunteering time and talents.
- Possesses skills in one or more of the following areas:
- Working with/training people
- Public presentation and speaking
- Video Editing
- Organization
- High level computer skills
- Web page development/design
- Photography
- Graphic design
- Video/animation
- Drawing/art
- Audio
- Computer programming
- Conflict resolution
Please accept our invitation to assemble a team of military and non-military youth and adults in your state or individuals who meet the criteria and want to increase their skills using multi-media and learn to create dynamic messages on behalf of the 4-H Military partnerships in your state.
Use this workshop as an opportunity to train a team of youth and adults or individuals in your state who can train others in these skills and actually develop video products useful to your OMK and 4-H Military programs for Army, 4-H, and other community groups and events. Please respond by sending a list of a team with no more than 3 youth and at least one adult from your state or individuals representing the above categories.
