Lewis County 4-H Flood Relief Account is set up
--Sheila Gray, Director, WSU Lewis County Extension
For those of you who called last week to inquire as to how you might be of help to the 4-H families, the Lewis County 4-H Council has opened an account at the local Washington State Employees Credit Union Branch.
The account name is Lewis County 4-H Flood Relief Account with the number 5570118. I believe that donations may be made at "sister" credit unions. Just ask at your local credit union to find out if they are participants.
And above all a heartfelt thank you for your care and kindness during this time.

Internet Safety for Educators Training Opportunity
--Dr. Mary Dyck, Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education, University of Lethbridge
For more information visit The Center for Distance and Professional Development homepage at: http://www.capps.wsu.edu/ and click in the What's New box on Internet Safety for Educators.
Even before they enter Kindergarden, children know to look up and down the street before crossing.
Unfortunately, not even most high school students know to "look both ways" when maneuvering the Internet, and increasingly, teachers are responsible for educating children about Internet Safety.
Washington State University 's Center for Distance and Professional Education, in partnership with internationally-recognized Internet Safety expert Linda Criddle, has developed a new online course, Internet Safety for Educators that provides real-world solutions.
The course will teach you about:
- Online predatory behavior including how predators choose their victims
- What information individuals actually divulge online (vs. what information they think they are sharing)
- Minimizing risks while using popular Internet products (instant messaging, blogging, social networking, etc.)
- Safe Internet use in the classroom, and
- Much more!
"The Internet Safety for Educators Course gave me the knowledge and perhaps more important, the courage to speak up, to take on those who use the Internet to harm people and to use every opportunity to help others with Internet Safety."
Farm Safety USA
--Vickie Harbert, President of Farm Safety USA
We are marketing a valuable and educational resource tool on farm safety to many diverse companies and organizations in the agricultural industry. I invite you to visit our website at www.farmsafetyusa.com to learn more about our product and listen to 4 of the 25 programs we are marketing in the U.S., Canada, U.K. and Australia.
We have received a great deal of positive response from other national ag related and educational organizations like AITC, FFA, Farm Safety 4 Just Kids and various Occupational Safety & Health University extensions. It is their belief that our product is one of the best educational tools they have available in teaching farm safety in the field, as it is not only very informative, but entertaining as well, causing retention and implementation. This saves life and limb of farm families nationwide!
We would like to broaden our reach by including each state's 4-H Club Councils to our current contact and client list. Due to the fact that your organization is an educational, non-profit entity, we would like to offer our product as a great fundraising tool to your council! Or, you can utilize it as an educational tool for your field instructors and day camps.

Navy/4-H Youth Development Program Announces two Positions
--Sharon K.B. Wright
The Navy/4-H Youth Development Project is a collaboration between National 4-H Headquarters and U.S. Navy Headquarters Child and Youth Programs. Our goal is to provide training and technical assistance to strengthen Navy Youth Programs and local 4-H/Navy partnerships. Navy and 4-H staff will work together at the installation/county level to establish 4-H clubs for Navy youth. The University of Hawaii has a Cooperative Agreement with CSREES to support this partnership and to enhance collaboration between Navy and 4-H colleagues in all states.
I am pleased to announce two positions for qualified Extension youth development and technology professionals who are interested in working with Navy staff to support and expand opportunities for Navy children and in building lasting partnerships between Navy and 4-H programs. One position is a “Navy/4-H Liaison” to focus on supporting 4-H programs for Navy youth and the other is a “Navy/4-H Youth Technology Specialist” position to integrate technology into youth programming on Navy installations. Both positions are for one year and will be located at the Navy Headquarters Child and Youth Programs office in Millington, Tennessee. The persons selected for these assignments must be employed by a Land Grant University and must have the commitment of the State 4-H Leader and Extension administrators to sub-contract with another university – the University of Hawaii – for their Navy 4-H YDP assignment and to continue their Extension employment for the duration of the assignment.
Please distribute this announcement to qualified Extension professionals who might be interested in a valuable professional development experience with the Navy/4-H YDP. Qualified candidates should submit a letter of interest and resume to both Sharon Wright, swright@csrees.usda.gov, and Larrie' Rodriguez, Larrie.Rodriguez@navy.mil, no later than January 4, 2008.
Just a Reminder!
When you have new Extension staff that will be working in some capacity with 4-H, please let Nancy in the State 4-H Office know. They will be added to mailing lists, added to the 4-H Talk list serve, sent a 4-H Welcome Packet, and be assigned a state 4-H staff person as a point of contact, as appropriate. 4-H News is sent via the 4-H Talk list serve each week. Archived copies of previous weeks “Tuesday 4-H News” are available on the 4-H web site: http://4h.wsu.edu/. Please send submissions by Friday of each week to Tiffany Boswell, State 4-H Office, tiffany_boswell@wsu.edu. Detailed event information and registrations forms can be found on the 4-H web site.
