4-H + summer = Teen Conference!
--Jan Klein
It's not too early to think about how YOU can mentor teens "Rising to the Challenge." 4-H Summer Teen Conference's revised theme is just that "Rising to the Challenge.” On June 29-July 1, on the WSU Pullman campus, teens will be looking for steps to take towards a positive future. What knowledge, experience and skills could you share with them in that journey? Workshop proposals are still needed. Check out the proposal forms at http://whatcom.wsu.edu/4-h/htmlemail/WPA_4H.html. Presentations will take place on Monday, June 30. Workshop sessions are planned for the morning and afternoon. Please note the focus and time allotment for each and select which is the best fit for your proposal.
- One hour workshops focused on success building skills: college, careers, life skills, leadership, and/or independence.
- Two hour workshops focused on exploration and adventure: may include WSU departments, new or creative subject mastery, or physical adventure.
Workshop proposals accepted through February.

Job Opportunity: 4-H/Navy Youth Development Project Director Assignment
--Sharon K.B. Wright, Submitted by Pat BoyEs
After discussions with State 4-H Military Liaisons and with other military partners recently, we decided to change our strategy for the Navy/4-H partnership program. Rather than starting with two 4-H youth development professionals in Liaison and Technology assignments, we are seeking one youth development professional to serve as Navy/4-H Youth Development Project Director. This highly qualified, experienced Extension youth development professional will have responsibility for development and implementation of the Navy/4-H Youth Development Project under direction of U.S. Navy HQ Child and Youth Programs (CYP) and National 4-H Headquarters. The Director will work with Navy CYP staff at Command and installation levels as well as with 4-H faculty at University and county levels to build relationships and collaborative programs for youth of Navy families. This individual will be stationed at Commander, Navy Installations Command HQ and will be part of the CYP team. Extensive travel is required, within and outside of the U.S. Applicants must be employed by a Land Grant University and must have the commitment of the State 4-H Leader and Extension administrators to subcontract with another university for this YDP assignment and to continue their Extension employment for the duration of the assignment. The position description can be found on the 4-H Military Partnership website http://www.4-hmilitarypartnerships.org under Professional Opportunities.
Please distribute this announcement to qualified 4-H youth development professionals interested in an exciting opportunity to provide direction and guidance to this new 4-H/Navy partnership and to bring 4-H to young people whose parents are serving in the Navy.
