Skateboard Park Tests Skills, Provides Options
for Columbia County 4-H Teens
A new skateboard park is proving the place to be for a group of 4-Hers in Columbia County. Over a dozen middle schoolers test their skills as they grind and perfect their heelflips at the Dayton City Park.
“Our youth are having fun and learning cooperation skills, respect, and how to value themselves, each other, and their community,” said Leslie Sweetwood, leader of the Columba County Curb Stompers.
The 4-Hers held several fund raisers and were involved with the design, grant application, and planning the exhibition event. With the support of the city council the $37,000 facility was complete in November and now all youth have access to the park.
“The group worked hard and saw the results. The cooperation between adults, kids and the community and learning the right way to communicate to get things done, has been exciting for everyone involved,” said Sweetwood.
