Lincoln County 4-H Leader Wins National Honor
Jill Schwartz has been selected as the Western Region Outstanding Lifetime Volunteer for the 2010 National 4-H Salute to Excellence Awards program.
Schwartz, of Reardan, has been involved in 4-H for over 30 years. She was recognized for her dedication to 4-H for over two decades as a leader in Lincoln County.
Schwartz grew up in a 4-H family and served as a beef leader in the Reardan Livestock Club for 14 years; coordinated the county Know Your Government Conference for over a decade; was a member and officer of the Lincoln County Leaders Council; a chaperone and fundraiser for the county-wide exchange club; and a resource leader for judging and other educational clinics. She also served on the Washington State 4-H Fair Board for seven years where she was past-president. In addition, she is now in her ninth year as an officer on the Junior Livestock Show of Spokane Executive Board, where she currently serves as Vice President.
“There’s nothing like seeing a young person work on a project and feel really good about what they have accomplished and learned,” said Schwartz who currently serves as a resource leader with Reardan Livestock. “I continue to volunteer because I really like working with kids, especially when the ‘aha’ moment comes from all their effort.”
As a regional recipient of the Outstanding Lifetime Volunteer award, Jill is eligible to be selected for the national honor for the Salute to Excellence program which will be announced in April, 2010.
