4-H News Around the State

My Nationals Experience was Amazing

by Samantha Whiteside, Snohomish County 4-H Judging Team

My trip to Kentucky is one I will always remember. It had so many wonderful moments in it; actually the whole trip is classified as amazing in my head. Even the nerve racking competition was amazing. I see all of it as an amazing part of my life.

My most favorite parts were meeting new people. I gained so many friends from the trip. Some I have kept contact with and have some glorious inside memories with for the rest of our lives. Also they really made the trip more fun. To be with other people who have a same hobby or interest sparks a friendship but going through something as crazy exciting as nationals seals that friendship, or so I believe.

I remember studying so hard up to the competition, and then laying it all out on the line. I really think that going through such an intense thing as the judging competition has truly made me a better person. Now it seems like I can accomplish anything after that judging. Ask me to stand in front of class to give a speech, no problem. Ask me to do a lot of work, in a short amount of time, no problem Ask me to do my best and go for it, I’ll never hold back. Honestly with Kentucky as apart of me I am unstoppable.

Another great thing about the trip was all the great extra things we got to see. Kentucky is now the second home of my heart. It is amazing geographically and tourist wise. I am so appreciative of the amazing things that we were fortunate enough to go see, and cherish all the moments I got from them.

Lastly, this experience is such a big deal to me because it has inspired me so much. I tried a couple judging competitions, was excited to go out for county. Then I qualified for state, and then to my bewilderment I was going to nationals. It just proves to me that my hard work does get me places. I’ll never forget that lesson. It is what keeps me going on the days when I feel like giving up on something or everything. Kentucky and all its wonders have taught me that I am capable of reaching my goals, and oh how so many more new goals I have created since that trip. I hope to go and qualify again so I can go to Kentucky one more time.
