4-Hers Selected for WSU Regents Scholarships

Four 4-Hers are among the states’ most honored high school seniors having been awarded a prestigious WSU Regents Scholarship.

Students are selected based on exceptional academic achievement and community, civic, and co-curricular involvement.  They will receive $6,000 a year for four academic years.

Recipient Maggie Schroeder, from Snohomish County, was also accepted into the Honors College at WSU.   She knows eight years in 4-H with the rabbit project helped her achieve her scholastic goals.

“4-H has helped my performance in school because studying information about rabbits taught me how to study better for school and how to retain information,” said Maggie.  “I'm an Honors and AP student and 4-H contributed to my academic success by helping my memorization and retention of information. Challenging rabbit judges have also taught me to think outside the box!”
Connor Jorgensen
Grant County’s Conor Jorgensen attributes 4-H to many of his accomplishments.  As a new Regents Scholar he looks forward to earning a Master’s degree and becoming a principal.

“Ever since I joined 4-H twelve years ago I have acquired numerous skills that will benefit me for the future,” said Conor. “I have developed organization skills, the ability to work with others, wise use of my time, and have learned how to speak in front of large audiences. My presentations skills have increased drastically and will only help me in the future with job interviews and class presentations,” he added.

Other 4-Hers receiving the 2010 WSU Regents Scholarship are Gretchen Stroh of Snohomish County and Cassi Wattenburger of Benton County.
