Spotlight – Mason County
How long you’ve been at the county office:
Where did you grow up?
I was born in Minnesota and have lived in Mason County since I was nine years old.
Scrapbooking and paper crafts, gardening, attending my kid’s sporting events, and designing/creating with my new vinyl cutter. I recently made a large WSU Spirit logo and WSU Shield for our office. I still sew occasionally. I have used the skills I learned in 4-H throughout my life! I love to use the creative part of my brain!
Were you in 4-H as a youth?
I was a 4-H member for five years with sewing and cooking projects and a 4-H mom/volunteer for ten years!
What did you like the most?
My favorite 4-H memories are of Public Presentations and Summer Camp.
How did your time in 4-H help you over the years?
Self-confidence and public speaking skills. These important skills are one of the many reasons that I encouraged my own children to become involved in 4-H!
What do you enjoy about working in 4-H?
I love the people! I feel like I have developed wonderful relationships with our members and volunteers. The positive impact that 4-H has on our members today and with their futures is so exciting.
How have you seen 4-H help youth as they develop and grow?
We have many former 4-H members return to the program as volunteers and are now offering clinics, serving as camp staff, leading their own clubs and teaching others to learn by doing! I think the fact that so many return to the program and give back is priceless! On a personal note, my daughter recently presented her 30 minute college senior project in front of professors, physicians and many community members. When she was done they praised her for her comfort with public speaking. Ten years of 4-H has had a tremendous positive impact on her life!
I love being a part of the Mason County 4-H team!
