How long have you been at the county office?
6 ½ years.
Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Portland, Oregon at the base of Mt. Tabor, an extinct volcano that is inside the city limits of SE Portland.
Photography, sewing, quilting (working on a large quilt right now for my husband), classic cars and race cars, animals, growing flowers and being outdoors in the woods.
What do you enjoy the most about working in 4-H?
I really enjoy all the possibilities that come along and the opportunities to develop new skills and knowledge. My job as a Program Assistant has such variety to it and every day is a new adventure of some kind while keeping up with all the on-going regular responsibilities.
How have you seen 4-H help youth as they develop and grow?
Through 4-H, youth have the opportunity to learn from each experience, whether they are working with an animal or involved in photography. Watching their confidence grow in a supportive club environment with a caring adult leader as they practice new skills or try a different method of doing something is amazing to see. When you step outside of your comfort zone, that’s where the learning really happens.
What else would be good to know?
My favorite way to present or facilitate learning opportunities utilize experiential education principles (Do, Reflect, Apply, metaphors and using the basics of 4-H Portable Challenge and Building Successful Learning Communities) by taking people on a little learning “adventure.”
