You Know Position Descriptions are Important

Managers of volunteers know that position descriptions that clearly outline the duties, expectations, and responsibilities of both the volunteer and the organization are useful. Knowing the requirements of individual volunteer management positions in advance simplifies the selection/recruitment and utilization of those willing to serve in these roles.

Written position descriptions challenge an organization to offer volunteers opportunities that are both interesting and rewarding. Some individual volunteers and entire volunteer programs are only partially successful, or fail entirely, because relationships were never clearly defined.

Even though volunteer managers know that position descriptions are important, sometimes, for a variety of reasons, the position descriptions just don't get written. Hopefully, this web site will provide the necessary boost to help you get those position descriptions written!

This Website May Help You Get those Position Descriptions Written

This web site has been developed to provide some assistance to you in designing useful volunteer management position descriptions. Most of the descriptions deal with volunteers who are managers in the 4-H Youth Development Program. Some represent managers in other Extension programs. Watch for an expanding General Section of position descriptions from other agencies and organizations.

We collected a variety of volunteer management position descriptions that are being used in our respective states, edited them based on the position descriptions from the TAXI (Volunteer Management Systems) materials from the National 4-H Council, and are sharing them with you.

You are invited to look at any position descriptions of interest to you and modify them to meet the needs in your situation. Clearly written position descriptions will result in more satisfaction for you and for your volunteers!

The position descriptions have been categorized under the following headings:
