Why Do You Volunteer With 4-H?
by Susan Parr
As a 4-H member growing up in the 1950’s in a rural community
deeply steeped with 4-H tradition, I had many volunteer 4-H leaders who unselfishly gave of their time and talents to teach me the Bishop method of sewing, how to use a pressure canner, how to make a rope halter, how to build a birdhouse, etc. Not only did these 4-H leaders teach me basic skills. They taught me intangible life skills like perseverance, organization of time and materials, conservation of natural resources, public speaking, and leadership skills which I use daily in my own life as I strive to “Make the Best Better.”
